The National Puerto Rico Equality Coalition to host a Memorial Day event.

The National Puerto Rican Equality Coalition (NAPREC) Executive Board would like to invite you to attend the organization’s “Puerto Rican’s Equality Day” kickoff event, which will take place on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 6:00 pm at 513 W. Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL 32804.

Florida is a critical battleground state, and decisions by its voters have national implications, so NAPREC wants to start the conversation right here to encourage participation by Puerto Ricans in the mainland, and other allied communities to fight for the equal treatment of our Puerto Rican community.

The event will engage and inform on the capacity of using voting power to demand that candidates and elected officials work to end Puerto Rico’s territorial status and support equality through statehood.

Puerto Rico’s more than century old problem of unequal treatment and political disenfranchisement is not just a challenge for island residents, but also impacts stateside communities too.

The current territorial status has placed structural limitations on Puerto Rico’s capacity to sustain economic growth, achieve a quality of life commensurate with that available in the states, and has effectively displaced millions of U.S. citizens seeking equal rights and better opportunities for themselves and their families.

That is why it is not surprising that island voters have rejected continuing the current territory status and supported equality through statehood at the polls three times in the last nine years, in 2012, 2017 and again in 2020.

Statehood for Puerto Rico would provide equal footing for the island to regain its competitiveness, restore economic growth and improve the quality of life for its residents.
